ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

​​The Annual General Meeting is on May 16 @ 7:30 pm in the multi-purpose room of the Blind River Community Centre.

Come out and see how a Junior A Hockey Team operates! Volunteers welcome!
The Annual General Meeting of the Blind River Beavers is when we wrap up the previous year and elect a Board of Directors. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting and run or elect new members to the board. We need your help!

Do you think you could help with billeting? Fund raising? Game night coordinator? Corporate sponsorship and advertising? We could use your help! Even if you don't want to be on the board, volunteers are always welcome at any time.

To vote and be elected to the board, please download the membership application form HERE. Complete and mail the form with a $5 application fee to the address on the form by May 10th and you're a member in good standing with voting privileges! That's all there is to it.

But don't worry if you don't want to be a member - you can still attend the meeting.

Blind River’s Adam Newkirk named NOJHL’s top defenceman

SUDBURY -- The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Adam Newkirk of the Blind River Beavers has been named the 2012-13 recipient of the NOJHL Trophy, which is presented annually to the league’s top defenceman.

The veteran six-foot, 185-pound blueliner, who hails from Chicago, Ill., is in his last year of junior hockey and skated in all but two games for the Beavers during the regular season amassing 25 points on seven tallies and 18 assists.

He becomes the first Beavers’ player to win the award in a campaign in which he also easily surpassed his goal, assist and point totals from a year ago.

As Blind River’s team captain, Newkirk logged plenty of minutes each night helping solidify his teams’ defensive efforts on a nightly basis.

He was also earlier named a NOJHL first team all-star for efforts in helping bolster the Beavers’ defensive corps.

Blind River’s Brandon Bazinet named NOJHL’s best defensive forward

SUDBURY -- The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Brandon Bazinet of the Blind River Beavers has been named the 2012-13 recipient of the Mitch Tetreault Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to the NOJHL’s top defensive forward.

Not only was the 17-year-old Val Caron, Ont., product pivotal in helping shutdown opposing shooters throughout this, his rookie campaign in the NOJHL, he was also creative doing so through his offensive efforts.

The five-foot-nine-inch, 160-pound forward competed in 46 of his team’s 48 regular season contests averaging nearly a point-per-game with 44 on 13 goals and 31 assists.

Bazinet becomes the third skater from Blind River to earn the award since it was first presented back in 2002-03.

Former Beavers’ forwards Gerritt Weller in 2008-09 and Jeremy Hilliard in 2006-07 were the other pair from Blind River to receive the accolades.

Rusty Joncas of Blind River Beavers named NOJHL director of the year

SUDBURY -- The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Blind River Beavers general manager Rusty Joncas has been named the 2012-13 recipient of the Joe Drago trophy, which is presented annually to the NOJHL’s director of the year.

Joncas was recognized in part for helping construct a Beavers’ roster during the 2012-13 campaign that showed an impressive 16-point improvement in the overall NOJHL regular season standings.

Blind River also recorded five more victories than they did back in 2011-12.

His efforts on behalf of his club also helped Joncas earn a place on the league’s first all-star team at the manager’s position.

Joncas becomes the second person from the Blind River organization to earn the award with Karen Carnahan picking up the honour back in 2003-04.
